When you want to express a conclusion that you draw from any given statement or information or to ask for confirmation on the underlying message you get or understand from some statement, in Thai, you would use the expression “แสดงว่า..” [sadaeng wâa..]. For example, a.) “ผมจะโทรไปยกเลิกตั๋ว” [phŏm jà to pai yóklêrk tŭa] “I’m calling to cancel the ticket”. b.) “แสดงว่าคุณจะไม่ไปแล้วเหรอ” [sadaeng wâa khun jà mâi pai léaw răw?] “You mean you are not going to attend anymore?”. The literal meaning of “แสดงว่า” is “to show/ indicate that”. So, any situation where you would like to express that, you can also use this expression as well. For example, “ถ้าคุณไม่โทรหาฉัน แสดงว่าคุณไม่รักฉัน” [tâa khun mâi to hăa chán, sadaeng wâa khun mâi rák chán.] “If you don’t call me, it means that you don’t love me”. “เขามีเบนซ์สามคัน แสดงว่าเขาต้องรวยมากแน่ๆ” [káo mii Benz săam kan, sadaeng wâa káo tâwng ruai mâak nâe nâe] “He has three Mercedes-Benzes! That means he must be very rich!”.
