When someone did something bad and later something bad happens to them, and you’re satisfied they got what they deserved, this is the phrase you can say to that person -> “สมน้ำหน้า [sǒm nám nâa].” It’s equivalent of the English expression “It serves you right!” A lot of times, we shorten the phrase to only “สม” [sǒm]. If someone says “สม” [sǒm] to you, they’re basically saying that you got what you deserved.

While Thai people do say it jokingly to their friends sometimes, there’s a chance your friend takes it seriously and gets really offended, so be careful when you use it. It’s not really a pleasant thing to hear after all.
