Did you know that the word “ใหม่” [mài], apart from meaning “new” and “again,” it can also mean “just” as in “have just done something”? And when used in this sense, the word tends to be repeated as “ใหม่ๆ” [mài mài]. Take a look at the examples below;

Examples:
ตอนเพิ่งเข้ามาทำงานที่นี่ใหม่ๆ ฉันเครียดมาก
[tawn peûng kâo maa tam ngaan tîi nîi mài mài, chán krîad maak]
When I had just started working here, I was very stressed out.

ตอนเสร็จใหม่ๆ อร่อยมาก
[tawn sèt mài mài, aròi mâak]
When it’s just finished, it tastes really good.

พวกคู่รักที่เพิ่งคบกันใหม่ๆไม่มีใครคิดถึงเรื่องแต่งงานหรอก
[pûak kûu rák tîi peûng kóp gan mài mài, mâi mii khrai kídteǔng reûang tàeng ngaan ràwk]
Couples that have just started dating don’t have marriage on their minds.
