มืดเกินไป [mêud gern pai] = too dark
ช้าเกินไป [cháa gern pai] = too slow

2. The Informal Way
Adjective + ไป [pai]

หนาวไป [nǎo pai] = too cold
มืดไป [mêud pai] = too dark
ช้าไป [cháa pai] = too slow

3. The Very Informal Way
Adjective + เกิน [gern]

หนาวเกิน [nǎo gern] = too cold
มืดเกิน [mêud gern] = too dark
ช้าเกิน [cháa gern] = too slow

Sometimes, on Facebook, personal blogs or in any informal writing, you might see เกิน [gern] written with the high tone เกิ๊น [gérn] instead. That is the transcription of how we pronounce it when we want to emphasize it when we speak. It’s pretty much like how you say “It’s wayyy too cold!” instead of “It’s too cold.” However, note that this is only common among teenagers and young adults.
