For those of you who have not watched the video, try reading these following sentences containing two words with similar pronunciation out loud and then watch the video to check if you pronounced them accurately.
ลาบเป็ดเผ็ดมาก [lâap bpèt pèt mâak]
Duck meat larb is very spicy.
* Larb is the name of a Northeastern Thai dish.
ปิดประตูผิดบาน [bpìt bprà dtuu pìt baan]
I closed the wrong door.
เขาชอบกินไข่ไก่ [káo châwp gin kài gài]
He likes to eat chicken eggs.
ใครอยู่ไกลกว่า [krai yùu glai gwàa]
Who is/lives further away?
แมวดำทำอะไรอยู่ [maew dam tam arai yùu]
What is the black cat doing?
ป้าให้ผ้าห่มคนบ้า [bpâa hâi pâa hòm kon bâa]
My aunt gave a blanket to a crazy person.
ทำงานที่นี่นานแล้ว [tam ngaan tîi nîi naan láew]
I’ve been working here for a long time.
เขางอนที่ฉันนอนก่อน [káo ngawn tîi chán nawn gàwn]
He’s sulking at me because I went to bed first.
เด็กไม่ดีต้องถูกดี [dèk mâi dii dtâwng tùuk dtii]
Bad children must be spanked.
อย่าจามใส่ชาม [yàa jaam sài chaam]
Don’t sneeze into the bowl.
ภูเขาไม่ใช่สีขาว [puu kǎo mâi châi sǐi kǎao]
Mountains aren’t white.
เข้าบ้านมากินข้าว [kâo bâan maa gin kâao]
(I) came inside the house to eat.
พี่สาวยืนพิงเสา [pîi sǎao yeun ping sǎo]
My sister is leaning against a pole.
วันนี้หรือเมื่อวาน [wan níi rěu mêau waan]
Today or yesterday?
ฉันเชื่อว่าชื่อนี้ดี [chán cheûa wâa chêu níi dii]
I believe that this is a good name.
ส้อมฉันสีส้ม [sâwm chán sǐi sôm]
My fork is orange.
เดือนหน้าจะไปเดินเขา [deuan nâa jà bpai dern kǎo]
I’m going to hike next month.
* เดิน [dern] means “to walk.” เขา [kǎo] means “mountains.”
The compound verb เดินเขา [dern kǎo] means “to hike.”
ย่าว่าฉันทำตัวแย่ [yâa wâa chán tam dtua yâe]
My grandmother thinks I behave badly.
ทำงานเพื่อเงิน [tam ngaan pêua ngern]
(I) work for money.
ช้อนอยู่ชั้นล่าง [cháwn yùu chán lâang]
Spoons are downstairs.
* ชั้น [chán] means level, layer, floor etc.
ผมอยากผอม [pǒm yàak pǎwm]
I want to be thin.
เลี้ยวขวาแล้วตรงไป [líaw kwǎa léaw dtrong bpai]
Turn right and then, go straight ahead.
ถึงบ้านแล้วถอดถุงเท้า [těung bâan léaw tàwt tǔng táao]
Remove your socks after you arrive home.
* ถุง [tǔng] means “bag.” เท้า [táao] means “foot.”
The compound noun ถุงเท้า [tǔng táao] means “sock(s).”
ห้องมืดมาก มองไม่เห็นมีด [hâwng mêut mâak mawng mâi hěn mîit]
The room is so dark. I can’t see the knife.
มีใครอยู่บ้านบ้าง [mii krai yùu bâan bâang]
Who’s home?
* บ้าง [bâang] is used at the end of a question when multiple answers are expected.
หลังเที่ยงไปเที่ยวกัน [lǎng tîang bpai tîao gan]
Let’s hang out in the afternoon.
* เที่ยว [tîao] means “to travel,” “to go on a trip,” “to hang out” etc.
ไม่อยากทำก็อย่าทำ [mâi yàak tam gâw yàa tam]
If you don’t want to do it, then don’t.
จากนี้ไปจะไม่โกหก [jàak níi bpai jà mâi goo hòk]
From now on, I won’t tell a lie.
จะเดินสวนต้องสวมหมวก [jà dern sǔan dtâwng sǔam mùak]
You need to wear a hat to go to a park.
* สวน [sǔan] means “garden,” “yard,” “park” etc.
ผู้หญิงคนนั้นไม่ค่อยพูด [pûu yǐng kon nán mâi kòi pûut]
That woman doesn’t talk much.
* พูด [pûut] means “to speak,” “to talk,” “to say” etc.
ผมต้มไข่ใต้ต้นไม้ [pǒm dtôm kài dtâai dtôn máai]
I’m boiling eggs under the tree.
เมื่อเมื่อยก็นั่ง [mêua mêuai gâw nâng]
When you’re tired, sit (and take a break).
สีของจานเริ่มจางแล้ว [sǐi kǎwng jaan rêrm jaang léaw]
The color of the plate is already starting to fade.
กรรไกรคนไหนคม [gan grai kon nǎi kom]
